Immaculate Heart of Mary - Parish Church
Franciscan Conventual Friars Minor
Location: Burmarrad Road, Burmarrad
The Franciscan Conventuals began building a church in Burmarrad for the people living in the area, as the parish church of St Paul's Bay was too far away for them. The church dedicated to the Immaculate Heart of Mary was inaugurated in 1964 and became a parish church in 1971.
Our Lady of Sorrows - Parish Church

Location : St Paul's Street, St Paul's Bay
Construction works started on July 8, 1901 under the supervision of architect E L Galizia. The foundation stone was laid on April 4, 1902. The church, which was financed by the noblewoman Anna Bugeja, was finished and blessed on April 9, 1905, by the Vicar General Salvatore Grech. On the same day, St Paul's Bay was erected as Parish. In this church we find paintings by one of the best Maltese artists, Giuseppe Cali'. The church was re-inaugurated on April 1, 1979, after extension works where carried out.
Feast : The feast of Our Lady of Sorrows is celebrated during the last week of July.
St Paul's Sanctuary
Location : Il-Menqa, St Paul's Bay
Dating back to the very beginning of Christianity in Malta, the legend narrates that this Sanctuary was erected on the spot where the Apostle Paul miracioulously survived the viper's venom. It is known that the Mulsims desecrated this Sanctuary which was restored by Count Rodger of Normandy in 1090. The church was built again by the Desguanez and Bordino families. Grand Master Alofio Wignacourt rebuilt the Sanctuary where we see it today in 1615 as before it was situated where the St Paul's Tower now stands. The Sanctuary was blessed on May 3, 1617 by Mons Senatore de Mello. On March 10, 1942, during an air-raid, a bomb hit the Sanctuary which suffered extensive damage. St Paul's Sanctuary was built again in 1950 by the War Damage Funds and was blessed by Archbishop Gonzi on February 7, 1957.
Our Lady of Mt Carmel
Location: St Paul's Street, St Paul's Bay
Construction works on this church commissioned by Dun Guzepp Banavia, Santu Pace, Noble PP Theuma Castelletti and Manuel Gauci started on August 16, 1854 and ended on February 10, 1855. The church was blessed on May 15, 1856 by Naxxar Parish Priest Camilleri. Extension works where carried out in 1927 under the supervision of Architect Edward Borg Cardona.
St John the Baptist
Location - Wardija, St Paul's Bay
No exact date can be given for the construction of this church, but we know that it was desecrated by the Muslims in 1610. It was rebuilt again by Glormu Scerri, as stated by Bishop Caligares during his Pastoral Visit of 1617. The church was rebuilt by Nobel Nikol Sciberras Bologna in 1852.
Massimiljanu Kolbe
Location - Bugibba, St Paul's Bay
Works on this church where finished in 1965, it was blessed by Archbishop Mercieca on 18 August 1979.
St Martin's Grotto
Location - San Martin, St Paul's Bay
In 1931 a statue of the Immaculate Conception (work of the sculptor Wigi Muscat) was erected in the Grotto. In 1939 Dun Dward Farrugia Bugeja erected an altar in the grotto and on January 25, 1952 Chev. Sir Hannibal Scicluna obtained a permit from the Vatican so that mass could be celebrated in the Grotto.
St Anne's Church
Location - Pwales, St Paul's Bay
This church, originally dedicated to Our Lady, was commissioned by Dun Gann Vincenz Galea. It was desecrated and on July 1, 1672 blessed again by Bishop Astria.
St George's Church
Location - Wardija, St Paul's Bay
According to historian Hugh Braun this church was erected during the 17th century. The titular painting was executed by Anton Falzon in 1642.
Our Lady of the Abandoned Souls
Location - Wardija, St Paul's Bay
This church was commissioned by Bailiff Fra Rajmondu Perellos and was consecrated on April 18, 1690 by Dun Antonju Manso. When Bailiff Perellos was elected as Grand Master of the Knights of St John he enriched this chapel with numerous works of arts. In August 24, 1969 a painting by Pawlu and Alfred Camilleri decorating the main dome of this chapel, was inaugurated.
Feast: The feast of Our Lady of the Abandoned Souls is celebrated during the second week of July.
St Simon the Apostle
Location - Wardija, St Paul's Bay
This church was constructed in place of another chapel that was desecrated. It stands on the grounds belonging to Noble Gauci. The new chapel was blessed by Canon Dun Felic Cutajar on 22 April 1868. The titular painting depicting St Simon is a work of artist Salvu Micallef.
The Immaculate Conception
Location - Wied Kannotta, St Paul's Bay
This chapel, commissioned by Noble Grazia Monpalao, was erected during the 16th century.
St Joseph the Worker
Location - Xemxija, St Paul's Bay
In June 1988 the former church dedicated to St Joseph the Worker, built in 1959, was demolished. Construction works on the new church started in September 1992 and the foundation stone was laid in February 21, 1993 by Fr Philip Cutajar. The first mass in the new church was celebrated on June 25, 1994.
Our Lady of Grace
Location - Wardija, St Paul's Bay
Commissioned by Noble Lwigi dei Conti Manduca, this church was built in 1867. The church was blessed by Canon Gorg Caruana.
San Pawl Milqi
Location - Burmarrad
This historical chapel dates back to the 17th century. It stands on the ruins of a roman villa and olive press. During 1963 excavation works where carried out by the Missione Archeologica Italiana. This place is taught to be the villa of Publius, the governor of Malta, in the times when the Apostle Paul was shipwrecked.
