Important Dates

  • 9th April 1905 - Our Lady of Sorrows Church in St. Paul's Bay was established by the decree "Sin da molto tempo" issued by HE. Mgr Pietro Pace Archbishop of Malta as the local parish church. The feast of Our Lady of Sorrows which used to be celebrated in September in now being held in the last week of July
  • 1930 - Foundation of The Sirens Aquatic Sports Club
  • In 1931 - Parish Priest Formosa Kerr petitioned the Governor for the installation of electricity in St Paul's Bay.
  • 19th May 1966 - Inauguration of Kennedy Grove
  • 1947 – Foundation of St Paul's Band Club by Fr Gann Frangisk Grima
  • 1967 – Foundation of The Sirens Football Club was in
  • 1971 – Declaration of  Burmarrad Church as Parish
  • 25th October 1979 - Extensive damages caused to St Paul's Bay due to storm that hit the Maltese islands
  • 1981 - Completion of works in St Paul's Bay panoramic By-Pass
  • 25th June 1989 - Five day visit of HMS Ark Royal which anchored in the port of St Paul's Bay 
  • 25th May 1990 – Blessing of statue of Jesus by His Holiness Pope John Paul II while on a three-day visit to our islands before this was laid down on the sea bottom
  • 8th August 1991 – Attempt of two Albanian refugee ships tried to find a haven in Malta. The two ships, Durresi and Lirija, were carrying about 400 and 200 half-clad refugees. Despite various warnings from the Maltese Authorities to remain outside territorial waters, the Durresi headed straight for the Grand Harbour. Off St. George's Bay some Albanians tried to swim ashore but were rounded up by the police. The ship was then led to anchor at St. Paul's Bay with Lirija following suit
  • 10th August 1991 Refusal of provisions by the second Albanian ship, wherein hungry and tired were brought ashore, fed and then voluntarily agreed to be repatriated
  • 20th November 1993 - First ever Local Council Elections held in St Paul's Bay
  • 9th March 1996 - Second Local Council Elections held in St Paul's Bay
  • 13th March 1999 - Third Local Council Elections  held in St Paul's Bay
  • 9th March 2002 - Fourth Local Council Elections held in St Paul's Bay
  • 25th October 2003 - Strong storm hits our shores
  • March 2005 – Fifth Local Council Elections held in St Paul’s Bay
  • 24th January 2008 - A strong Grigale hit our shores
  • 8th March 2008 - Sixth Local Council Elections held in St. Paul's Bay 
  • November 2009 - Installation of Photovoltaic Street Lighting System in Triq Jean de La Cassiere, for in the first time in Malta.
