The locality known as San Pawl il-Bahar is at present the largest holiday centre on the island. A substantial part of the island’s population, some sixty thousand transfer here for the summer months. For the remaining seven months the area returns to its quiet and pensive mode. Amongst the places of interest worth viewing one finds the Xemxija Heritage Trail, the olive-producing centre in San Pawl Milqi - Burmarrad, possible Roman salt pans in Bugibba, the Planet Walk along the promenade in Qawra, the Wignacourt Tower, the Aquaducts built by Grand Master Adolf de Wignacourt in Pwales. Among the places of worship to visit one finds the Parish of Our Lady of Sorrows in St Paul’s Bay, the Parish of Our Lady of the chapel of the Annunciation in Salina, the chapels of Immaculate Conception, Our Lady of the Foresaken, Our Lady of Grace, St John the Baptist, and of St George all in Wardija, the Chapel of Our Lady of Mount Carmel in ix-Xaghra tal-Bandieri, the Chapel of Ghajn Rihana and that of St Martin in San Martin, the Chapel of Tal-Hgejjeg, and the Chapel of Massimileano Kolbe in Qawra.
