St. Paul’s Bay Elderly Day Centre
The Day Centre, is situated in Parades Street corner with Parish Street and inaugurated by the Prime Minister Dr. Edward Fenech Adami on 26th of July 2001. It officially opened the doors for our elderly people on 10t September 2001.
At first, most people were sceptical about this Day Centre. To date, the day centre has actually become small for its members and has over 120 members of whom 118 attend regularly. The centre opens from Monday to Friday. It is managed by four staff members in addition to an Officer in charge.
Activities at the Day Centre includes crafts, which vary from ganutell, monastery work, crochet, knitting and painting. I.T. Tuition is also offered by one of the members while Bingo is played at times. There is a guitar group in the Centre that takes part in activities organised on a national level. Religious talks, cultural and creative outings are held monthly. These vary from visiting museums to a Gozo tour as well as a day at the sea side. In Summer monthly outings are held in the evening due to the warm weather.
Recreational activities include a Christmas party, a Carnival fancy dress party, an Easter Bonnet party as well as a Mothers’ Day activity. All activities are held indoors. On Fathers’ Day dads are taken for a day to Gozo. Each year the Centre celebrates its opening anniversary.
For fund raising activities, Bazaars are organised throughout the year. Traditional figolli are also part of the elderly’s agenda. These are baked at the Day Centre, on order, thanks to Millefoglie who is of extremely generous and of great help.
Talks are held on a regular basis according to members requirements.
The Day Centre offers the service of a Podologist, Occupational Therapist
and Physio Therapy.
Membership is open to local residents who are over 60 years.
Opening hours are from Monday to Friday 8.30am till 4pm.
